Yesterday this great nation celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. I am always delighted to see our country celebrate the legacies of influential leaders like Dr. King. I have noticed that the celebrations of Dr. King continue to grow each year. Perhaps this year it was heightened by the Political forces due to 08 being an election year. Either way, the celebrations remain and I am reminded of the "Dream Speech" in which Dr. King inspired the activation of a grand movement. He surely had a Dream that was gigantic. After all, why should we have dreams that are "near reaching?" Your dreams should be "far reaching" at best. Do you have a dream? Perhaps you call it your Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) as Jim Collins talks about in Good to Great.
I challenge you to think on your dreams and see how much progress you have made towards reaching them. Are they still realistic? If the day to day activities have covered up your dreams like a playground pile-on, I ask you to dig it up and dust it off so you can re-ignite your passion.
Tell your dream to someone and perhaps someone that will help you achieve it. Tell your dreams to your spouse and your children so they will be further inspired to dream. Have a Dream Theme at your next family dinner. Tell your dreams to the people you lead so they will be inspired to keep following you and to support you.
For a great read on sticking with it or letting go properly. I recommend you read THE DIP by Seth Godin. It's a quick one that will teach you much about making due on your Dreams in business and in life.
Stay Tuned for another post this week on Dreams and following them through.
